Settlements and fees
Musqet shows you two sides of the money. What comes in is your card takings settling to your bank, with a statement that breaks each payout down to the sale. What you are charged is Musqet’s fees, the bitcoin network’s fees, and the Spark platform fee. Card settlements, statements and invoices live on My Musqet in your web browser. Bitcoin and Spark fees live in the Musqet wallet app on your phone. This page says which is which as it goes.
When your card takings reach your bank
Section titled “When your card takings reach your bank”Go to Sales > Settlements. This page appears only for a business set up to take card payments. It lists your payouts over a date range (the last month by default), one row per statement, with the statement date, the payment (the amount paid out, in the settlement currency), a payment ID and the device ID the takings came from.
Musqet does not move this money itself and does not set the schedule. Your card acquirer settles your takings to your bank on its own timetable, typically the next business day on weekdays, though the exact timing depends on the acquirer. Treat next-day as the normal case, not a guaranteed service level. Each payout appears here once its settlement file has been imported, which happens every weekday.
The breakdown of one payout
Section titled “The breakdown of one payout”Open a settlement row to see the statement in full: every line that made up the payout, newest first. Summary lines come first (payment, service fees, adjustments), then the individual card transactions. Each transaction line carries a fee breakdown so you can see exactly what was taken from it: the fixed transaction fee, interchange, card scheme fees, the acquiring fee and the discount rate, alongside the card details, the gross amount and the net that reached you. Select any transaction to drill into its detail.
Downloading a settlement as a spreadsheet
Section titled “Downloading a settlement as a spreadsheet”In the statement view, Download CSV hands you the settlement as a spreadsheet file. It is the original settlement file from your acquirer, ready to open in a spreadsheet or pass to your bookkeeper. A settlement downloads as a CSV, not a PDF; your monthly invoice is the PDF (below).
A payout that has not arrived
Section titled “A payout that has not arrived”A settlement shows up here once two things have happened: your acquirer has settled the takings, and Musqet has imported that day’s settlement file. Files arrive every weekday, so a payout for recent weekend or bank-holiday trading can lag by a working day or two.
There is no self-serve payout tracker to check beyond this list, and no in-app “held” or “failed” status. If a payout you were expecting has not appeared after the next working day, or the amount is not what you expected, contact support with the date and the amount and we will trace it against the acquirer’s file.
Your statements and invoices
Section titled “Your statements and invoices”Go to Invoices. Like the Settlements page, this appears only for a business set up to take
card payments. Here statement and invoice mean the same thing: your monthly Musqet
invoice, one per calendar month (not the per-payout settlement statement above), which you can
open for the full breakdown or download as a PDF.
Each invoice carries a reference (your business name with the month and a version, such as
ACME-INC-02-26-04), the billing period and the total. An invoice is raised for any month you had
card takings or a subscription or terminal charge due, so a month with only a terminal rental and no
card payments still produces one, showing the terminal charges with no card fee sections.
Open one and the fee sections expand: card transaction fees and their breakdown, service fees, adjustments, and terminal charges (your subscription and hardware, shown as subscription fees due). Each terminal charge line shows its unit price and quantity, and if a discount has been agreed for the period it appears on the line as a percentage. For a business incorporated in the UK, 20% VAT is added to the terminal charges. An invoice shows what you have been charged for the month; it does not carry a paid-or-unpaid marker.
Terminal rentals and purchases are billed per terminal, but the invoice shows one line per kind of charge: if you have three terminals rented at the same price you see a single rental line of quantity three. Terminals of the same kind at a different price, or with a different discount, get a line of their own. Besides rental and purchase, a terminal charge line may be a terminal recovery, a next day swap out, a refurbishment, or a customer damage repair, each billed per terminal as a one-off in the month it applies to. The line names the kind of charge, not the individual device.
What Musqet charges you, and where to see it
Section titled “What Musqet charges you, and where to see it”Your charges come in two kinds:
- Card processing fees are deducted by your acquirer as each payout settles, so Musqet does not add them after the fact. You see them two ways: per payout, in the fee-breakdown columns on the Settlements statement, and totalled for the month on your invoice.
- Subscription and terminal charges are your hardware and plan. They appear on the monthly invoice as terminal charges (subscription fees due), with UK VAT where it applies.
There is no separate rate-card screen listing your agreed percentages. What you see are the actual fees taken, on each settlement and summed on the invoice.
Bitcoin network fees
Section titled “Bitcoin network fees”Moving bitcoin out of your Musqet wallet costs a network fee, and you pay it. Before you confirm a withdrawal or a payment, the app estimates the fee and shows it, with the total you will part with (the amount plus the fee).
- An on-chain send shows the network fee and the fee rate.
- A Lightning payment shows a maximum routing fee, so the figure is a ceiling rather than an exact charge.
- A Spark transfer carries no network fee.
In the wallet app, this is the review step when you send or pay.
Spark fees
Section titled “Spark fees”Spark is a way to accept bitcoin where the payment lands straight in your own wallet, so Musqet is never in the flow of your funds. For that, a small platform fee builds up on each Spark sale rather than being taken out of the customer’s payment. The Spark fees you owe, and the flow to clear them, live in the wallet app on your phone.
See what you owe. In the wallet app, open Fees. It shows the fee that has accrued, what you have already paid, and the balance still owed.
Clear it. From the same screen, settling the balance sends the owed amount from your business wallet to Musqet’s fee address and confirms with your device’s biometrics. Musqet checks the transfer on the bitcoin network before marking it paid, so it may take a moment to settle. If the network is slow, the payment is remembered and reconciled once it confirms; you will not be charged twice. Leaving a balance owing does not block your account or your sales.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The Settlements page is not in my menu | Your business is not set up to take card payments, or has no card connectivity yet | Bitcoin-only businesses have no card settlements; contact support if you expected card payments to be live |
| Settlements, Chargebacks or Invoices says card payments aren’t set up | The business is not approved for card payments yet | The owner can choose Apply for card payments on that page. If an application is already open, the page fills in once it is approved |
| A recent payout is not listed | The acquirer has not settled it yet, or its file is not yet imported | Allow the next working day; files arrive each weekday |
| A weekend’s takings have not settled | Settlement files arrive on weekdays | Expect them on the next working day |
| The Invoices page is empty | No monthly invoice has been generated for you yet | Invoices cover a completed month; the first appears after your first month with settled takings or a subscription or terminal charge due |
| I cannot find Spark fees on the website | The owed balance and the settle flow are only in the wallet app | Open Fees in the Musqet wallet app on your phone |
| My Spark balance owed has not dropped after paying | The transfer is still confirming on the network | Give it a few minutes; it reconciles automatically once confirmed |
