Notifications

Musqet keeps you up to date in a few ways: a notification centre in the dashboard and the app, a few emails, and a phone alert when you take a payment. You can also have some alerts sent to other people by email.

A note on your account: messages about your login and security (password resets, sign-in verification, two-factor changes) are sent to you by email, and are not shown in the notification centre. Those are covered on Account security. A team invitation is an email too, and its link opens a Finish your account page for someone new to Musqet (see Team and staff).

Your notification centre lists what has happened on your business while you were away. Open it from the bell in the dashboard or the app; a badge on the bell shows how many are unread. It is on both the web and the app, and each person sees their own.

The notification centre covers things that happen to the business:

  • Your application is approved, when your account is switched on.
  • A payment comes in (this is the one that alerts your phone; see below).

Business notifications go to the owner. The approval is also emailed to the owner; the payment alert is phone-only.

If your business once ran a Lightning node with Musqet, its old node and channel notifications stay in your notification centre. Musqet no longer sends them.

You cannot currently turn your own notifications on or off one by one: the business notifications above go to the owner, and that is not adjustable. The one place you choose events is for the external recipients below, where you pick which events each address receives.

Open a notification to mark it read, or use Mark all as read to clear the ones you have dealt with. Read state is per person, so marking one read for yourself does not change it for a colleague. There is no separate delete; marking read is how you clear the list.

In the merchant app you can get a phone alert when you take a payment. The first time you sign in, the app asks your phone for permission to send notifications; accept it and payment alerts start arriving. A payment is the only thing that alerts your phone.

If phone alerts stop arriving, it is almost always the phone’s permission. There is no switch inside the app to turn them back on: enable notifications for the Musqet app in your phone’s settings, then reopen the app and sign in again, which re-registers the device.

You can send some notifications to other people by email, for example a bookkeeper or a manager who is not on your team. Open Notification recipients in the dashboard (you need the manage-notifications permission).

  • Adding a recipient. Enter their email address and a name, and choose which events they should get. You can add up to three external recipients per business. They can receive the business events above except the payment alert, which is a phone-only alert, so today that is the approval.
  • Confirming the address. A new recipient is sent a link to confirm their address: it opens a page where they choose Confirm, so a mail filter that opens links cannot confirm for them. They start getting notifications only once they do. The link is good for 24 hours; if it lapses, you can send it again (there is a short wait between sends).
  • Editing or removing. You can change a recipient’s name or which events they get, or remove them entirely. The email address itself cannot be changed; to use a different address, remove the recipient and add the new one.

Adding external recipients is switched on per business, so if you do not see Notification recipients it may not be enabled for your account yet; contact support. Phone alerts are in the merchant app only.
