Online store plugins
Musqet plugins let you take payments on your own online store. Install a plugin on WooCommerce or Magento 2, enter your Musqet credentials, and your customers can pay at your checkout with a card, Google Pay, Apple Pay or bitcoin. There is nothing to build; the plugin does the payment work.
Two gateways are available, and you install the one that matches your Musqet account:
- Encoded takes cards (through secure hosted fields), Google Pay and bitcoin.
- Cardstream takes cards, Google Pay and bitcoin, plus Apple Pay in embedded checkout.
There is also a bitcoin-only plugin for stores that want to accept bitcoin and nothing else. If you are not sure which gateway your account uses, ask Musqet.
Adding Musqet to WooCommerce
Section titled “Adding Musqet to WooCommerce”- Upload the plugin folder to
wp-content/plugins/on your WordPress site, or install it from the plugin zip. - In your WordPress admin, open Plugins and activate the Musqet plugin.
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments and open Musqet to set it up. A Settings link also appears next to the plugin on the Plugins page.
The plugin works with classic WooCommerce checkout, the newer Cart and Checkout blocks, and High-Performance Order Storage.
Adding Musqet to Magento
Section titled “Adding Musqet to Magento”-
Copy the module into
app/code/Musqet/in your Magento installation. -
Enable and install it:
Terminal window # module id by gateway: Musqet_MusqetPaymentEncoded (Encoded),# Musqet_MusqetPaymentCardstream (Cardstream), Musqet_MusqetPaymentBtc (bitcoin-only)bin/magento module:enable Musqet_MusqetPaymentEncodedbin/magento setup:upgradebin/magento setup:di:compilebin/magento cache:flush -
Open Stores > Configuration > Sales > Payment Methods and find the Musqet payment method to set it up.
The module name and admin path differ slightly by gateway; the steps are the same.
Setting up your gateway
Section titled “Setting up your gateway”In the plugin settings you:
- Enable the payment method so it appears at checkout.
- Set the title your customers see next to the payment option (for example, “Card or bitcoin”).
- Enter your credentials from Musqet so the plugin can take payments on your behalf. On the Encoded gateway these are your Client ID and Client Secret; on the Cardstream gateway they are your Gateway Merchant ID and Gateway Signature Key.
- Choose the environment. On Encoded, leave it on Staging (Test) while you set up and test, and switch to Production only when you are ready to take real money; Staging credentials do not work in Production, and vice versa. Cardstream has no separate card environment toggle (only a Bitcoin Environment setting for the bitcoin rail); its card processing is live or test according to the credentials Musqet gave you.
You can turn each payment method (card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, bitcoin) on or off individually, so you offer only the ones you want.
Choosing how your checkout appears
Section titled “Choosing how your checkout appears”You can present the payment step in one of two ways:
- Redirect. The customer is sent to a secure Musqet-hosted payment page to pay, then returned to your store. Nothing sensitive touches your site.
- Embedded. The payment fields appear inside your own checkout, so the customer never leaves your store. Card details are entered in secure fields that Musqet hosts inside the page, and Google Pay, Apple Pay and bitcoin appear as options in the same step.
Pick whichever suits your store. Embedded gives a seamless checkout; redirect keeps your site out of the payment path entirely.
Taking card payments
Section titled “Taking card payments”With card payments enabled, customers pay with Visa, Mastercard and other major cards. In embedded mode the card number, expiry and security code are entered in secure Musqet-hosted fields, so the card details never touch your server. In redirect mode the card is entered on the Musqet payment page.
Accepting Google Pay
Section titled “Accepting Google Pay”Turn on Google Pay and a Google Pay button appears for customers whose browser and device support it (typically Chrome with Google Pay set up). To use Google Pay in embedded mode you enter your Google Pay Merchant ID in the plugin settings. Customers who do not have Google Pay simply see the other payment options.
Accepting Apple Pay
Section titled “Accepting Apple Pay”The Cardstream gateway supports Apple Pay in embedded checkout. Customers using Safari on an Apple device see an Apple Pay button and confirm the payment with Face ID, Touch ID or their passcode. Apple Pay does not appear on browsers or devices that do not support it.
Taking bitcoin payments
Section titled “Taking bitcoin payments”Turn on bitcoin and customers can pay with Lightning or on-chain bitcoin. When they choose bitcoin at checkout, they are shown a QR code to scan with their bitcoin wallet. Once the payment confirms, the order is marked paid and the customer returns to your confirmation page; if they cancel, the order is cancelled. Bitcoin payments use your Bitcoin Business ID and Musqet API Key (a separate key Musqet issues alongside your other credentials), which you enter in the plugin settings.
Accepting bitcoin only
Section titled “Accepting bitcoin only”If you want to accept bitcoin and nothing else, install the bitcoin-only plugin instead. It needs your Bitcoin Business ID and Musqet API Key, with no card gateway credentials, and it can run alongside the full plugin without conflict. Customers see a single “Pay with Bitcoin” option that opens the same QR code flow.
Testing before you go live
Section titled “Testing before you go live”While the environment is set to Staging (Test), you can place test orders without moving real money. Use the Musqet test cards to see approved, declined and authentication outcomes, then switch the environment to Production when you are ready to trade.
Refunds
Section titled “Refunds”You refund a store order from your store admin as usual. In WooCommerce, open the order and choose Refund; in Magento, open the order’s invoice and create a credit memo. The refund is sent back through Musqet, and a note is added to the order recording whether it succeeded.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A payment link could not be generated | The credentials or environment are wrong | Check your gateway credentials (Client ID and Client Secret on Encoded, or Gateway Merchant ID and Gateway Signature Key on Cardstream), and that the environment matches the credentials Musqet gave you |
| The card form does not load at the checkout | The embedded card fields could not load | Make sure your checkout is served over HTTPS and check the browser console for errors |
| The Google Pay button does not appear | Google Pay is unavailable or not configured | Confirm your Google Pay Merchant ID is set, and test in Chrome on a device with Google Pay |
| A bitcoin payment does not complete | The bitcoin component could not load or confirm | Confirm your Bitcoin Business ID and Musqet API Key are set, and that browser extensions or security settings are not blocking the payment window |
| An order is stuck as pending | The return from the payment page did not reach your store | Make sure the return and callback URLs are not blocked by a firewall or security plugin |
| Authentication errors | The credentials do not match the environment | On Encoded, match the credentials to the Environment setting; on Cardstream, make sure you are using the right live or test credentials |
